The Local Government Association of Queensland (Incorporated) (LGAQ) is committed to protecting user privacy. LGAQ understands and appreciates that visitors and users of this e-Petitions web site are concerned about their privacy and the confidentiality and security of any information that is provided to LGAQ.

Collection and Use of Your Personal Information

For persons who join an e-Petition, the LGAQ require that the following mandatory information be provided including: full name, address and email address. This information is required as a means of verifying the person and their eligibility to join the e-Petition. For the purposes of the petition, the personal details you supply to us will be provided in their entirety to the nominated authority. These authorities, at their discretion, may choose to use this information to contact you in relation to the matter contained in the petition. The personal details of persons who join an e-Petition will not be viewable on the web site other than individual initials and suburb listed under support or opposition.

Collection of Information on Web Site Activity

For statistical purposes, we collect information on web site activity (such as the number of users who visit the e-Petitions web site, the date and time of the visits, the number of pages viewed and navigation patterns) through the use of "cookies". This information on its own does not identify an individual, but it does provide us with statistics that we can use to analyse and improve our web site. Cookies allow computers to identify and interact more effectively. Cookies do not identify users, although they do identify a users' browser type and your internet service provider. Most internet browsers are set up to accept cookies. If you do not wish to receive cookies, you may be able to change the settings of your browser to refuse all cookies or to notify you each time a cookie is sent to your computer, giving you the choice whether to accept it or not.

Personal Information Security

LGAQ uses a variety of physical and electronic security measures including restricting physical access to its offices, fire walls and secure databases to keep personal information secure from misuse, loss or unauthorised use or disclosure. The internet is not a secure environment. If you use the internet to send LGAQ any information, including your email address, it is sent at your own risk.

Personal Information - Access and Accuracy

You have the right to access most personal information LGAQ holds about you. If you want to access your information or alternatively if you have a complaint concerning your information privacy please direct your query in writing to - The Privacy Officer, LGAQ, PO Box 2230, Fortitude Valley BC Qld 4006. You are allowed to inspect all personal information held by us about you, take notes about or obtain copies of the information. LGAQ may deny your request for access to personal information in some circumstances but if we do this then we will tell you why. LGAQ may charge a fee for supplying the personal information.

It is important that the personal information we collect from you is accurate, complete and up to date. You can contact us at any time to update your personal information or to tell us that the information we hold about you is inaccurate or incomplete.

A Commonwealth identifier is a Commonwealth Government or Commonwealth Government Agency designated identification number such as your tax file number or medicare number. LGAQ does not use Commonwealth identifiers either as a means of identifying the personal information that we may have collected about you or otherwise.

Wherever it is lawful and practicable to do so, LGAQ will offer you the opportunity to deal with us anonymously.

Sensitive Information

If personal information concerns particular topics it is regarded as "sensitive information", for example, information about your racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious beliefs or health. LGAQ only collects, uses or discloses sensitive information about you as is allowed by law, for example, where we have received your consent to do so.
