What is a petition?

A petition is a formal request signed by at least one person, however most petitions gather as many signatures as possible to show strong support for the request. The signed petition is placed before a relevant body with the object of persuading the body to take some particular action.

What is an e-petition?

An e-petition is simply a traditional petition submitted in an electronic format, which can be established, viewed and signed via the internet.

How to request an e-petition.

Requesting an e-petition is a three step process.

  1. The petitioner must gain the support of a Queensland Councillor - more
  2. The petitioners' personal details and supporting councillor details need to be entered along with the exact wording of the petition - more
  3. Once submitted, your nominated councillor will be contacted with a request that they present the 'petition question' to their council for consideration. All petitions must be officially endorsed by a resolution of council before it is made available via the Petitions Queensland website - more
